Most people buy a bathroom heater because they’re tired of shivering while they get dressed. But if you look closer, these things are actually secret weapons for fighting moisture. We use IP55-rated infrared heaters not just to keep you warm, but to stop mold from moving in.
How it actually works
Think about a regular space heater. It warms up the air, which in a steamy bathroom just creates a warm, wet soup. That’s exactly where mold thrives. Infrared is different. It doesn’t bother with the air. Instead, it beams heat directly onto your walls, your ceiling, and those annoying grout lines. When that heat hits a damp spot, it kicks the water molecules into high gear, forcing them to evaporate way faster than they would on their own. You’re basically drying the room from the surface up.
The gear behind it
Water and electricity are a terrible mix. That’s why we stick with an IP55 rating. In plain English? It means the unit is sealed tight against dust and can handle water splashing at it from any angle. You can keep the shower running and not spend the whole time worrying about a short circuit. Inside, we use quartz glass tubes. They can handle the sudden jump in temperature without cracking, and they get hot instantly. Since you’re only in the bathroom for a few minutes at a time, you don’t want to wait ten minutes for the room to feel cozy.
A few things to watch out for
Now, shortwave IR is powerful. Like, really powerful. It’s great for killing mold spores and drying walls, but the heat is intense. If you mount the heater too low or put it right next to plastic trim, you might actually warp your fixtures. The trick is to get the distance right based on your ceiling height so you don’t end up with “hot spots.” I’d also suggest wiring it to a timer or a humidity sensor. That way, it does its job and shuts off before the room feels like a sauna.
