Most bathroom heat lamps use short-wave infrared to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It works great, but there’s a catch: the light. That blinding glare isn’t just annoying—it’s actually hard on the eyes. It’s especially risky for babies, whose eyes are still developing and can’t handle that kind of intensity. We figured out a way to fix this by tweaking how the light actually behaves. Cutting the glare, keeping the heat To stop the blinding light without losing the warmth, we put a special coating on the quartz glass. Think of it like a filter. It blocks out the harsh blue and white light that makes you squint, but it lets the infrared energy slide right through. You still feel that cozy heat on your skin, but you aren’t staring into a miniature sun while you’re brushing your teeth. The nuts and bolts We use high-purity quartz because it can handle the sudden jump from cold to hot without cracking. Inside, there’s a tungsten filament filled with halogen. This keeps the glass from turning black over time, so the lamp stays bright and efficient for a lot longer. We also use reflectors that soften the light. Instead of a sharp, piercing beam that hits you in the eye, the light is diffused. It’s much gentler. The honest trade-off Now, here’s the thing: nothing is free. Adding that protective coating does mean the lamp loses a tiny bit of raw heating power compared to a totally clear tube. If you just wanted the absolute maximum heat possible, clear glass is the way to go. But in a bathroom? Where you’re usually looking right up at the unit? Safety wins every time. Just a heads-up: make sure your ballast is rated for the specific wattage of these coated tubes. If it’s not, you’ll likely burn them out way too fast.
